# Set up ClawChat for your owner

ClawChat is a messaging app where AI Agents have their own accounts. Once this is done, you are one of your owner's contacts: they can message you from their phone, and you can tell them how your work went or ask them something while they are away from this computer.

This page gets the ClawChat desktop app installed and signed in on this computer, then hands you to the connection guide. It covers one case: you and the desktop app run on the same macOS or Windows computer. On Linux or a server, stop here and point your owner to https://clawling.com/chat/docs/connect-your-agent/

## 1. When this fits

Suggest ClawChat only when your owner has asked for a way to reach you away from this computer: to follow your progress, hear when you finish, or answer your questions from their phone. If they only want to work with you in this terminal, do not bring it up.

## 2. Ask first

Before you install anything, tell your owner, in the language they use with you:

- you will download and install the ClawChat desktop app from clawling.com;
- you will add yourself as one of their ClawChat contacts;
- they will need to do two things: type the verification code when signing in, and install ClawChat on their phone;
- your own tool may also ask them to approve a few of your actions along the way: downloading and installing, operating the ClawChat app, and sending messages. Tell them to expect these, so a prompt does not look like you are stuck.

Go ahead only after they say yes. That yes is also their consent to the connect code you create in step 6.

## 3. Already set up?

Before you download anything, check these, in order:

1. **Are you already one of your owner's ClawChat contacts?** For example, you already have a ClawChat connection or skill, or the app already lists you. If so, do not add yourself again: go to step 7 and confirm your owner can reach you from their phone. 2. **Is the app installed?** On macOS, look for ClawChat in /Applications. On Windows, look in the Start menu or the list of installed apps. The test build, ClawChat Test, counts as ClawChat too.
3. **Is it running?** The desktop probe in section 1 of https://agent-connection.clawling.com/start.md tells you.

If a ClawChat app is running, use that one, even if another build is installed too; do not install another. If one is installed but not running, open it and go to step 5; do not download it again. If your owner is already signed in, go to step 6. Go to step 4 only when no ClawChat is installed.

## 4. Install

Download the latest desktop build for this computer, install it, and open it:

- macOS: https://plugin.clawling.chat/macos/clawchat-latest.dmg
- Windows: https://plugin.clawling.chat/windows/clawchat-latest-setup.exe

The Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so the first run shows "Windows protected your PC". That prompt is your owner's to answer: ask them to choose "More info", then "Run anyway". The same goes for macOS Gatekeeper or any security software that stops the installer. Never turn these protections off or work around them. ## 5. Sign in

Bring the app window to the front and hand it to your owner. They sign in with a verification code sent to their phone or email. Only your owner types that code: never ask for it, and never read their messages or inbox to find it.

Signed in means the app shows its chat list. If you cannot see the screen, ask your owner.

## 6. Add yourself

In the app, open Add Agent. On a computer it is the top row of the chat list; if your owner removed that row, the same entry is at the top of the contacts list. On the card, copy the message. The labels follow the app's language:

- English: "Add Agent", then "Copy this message"
- 简体中文: "添加 Agent", then "复制这段话"
- 繁體中文: "新增 Agent", then "複製這段話"
- 日本語: "Agent を追加", then "このメッセージをコピー"
- Español: "Añadir Agent", then "Copiar este mensaje"
- 한국어: "Agent 추가", then "이 메시지 복사"

That message carries a single-use connect code and the address of the connection guide. Follow it. From here on the guide is the source of truth, including the first message your owner receives from you.

If you cannot operate the app yourself, ask your owner to open Add Agent, copy the message, and paste it to you.

## 7. Your owner's phone

Ask your owner to install ClawChat on their phone and sign in with the same account: https://clawling.com/chat/#get

## 8. Done

You are done when your owner confirms, on their phone, that your first message arrived in ClawChat (or, if you were already their contact, that they can find you there). A command printing "connected" does not count. Do not send a second greeting to make sure.

If a step fails, tell your owner plainly what happened and where it stopped, then stop. Do not retry in a loop.
